I didn't intend to do a diary today, but this headline was just completely irresistible. I giggled for a long time, and I thought sharing it with you might bring some laughter into your Sunday as well.
It has almost everything you need for a good red-meat story to induce salivation among conservatives: librul media, Marxists, and conspiracy theory. If you want to see it in situ, you may choose to go here.
It was a close race, though, with another one--I'll paste below.
The missing component to flambé the rest of conservatives' hair is provided by this other piece:
To view this item in the wild, go here.
That's right--the BBC turned their backs on our Lord--jettisoning 2000 years of the harmony and enlightenment we've enjoyed from Christians. Or something. Everyone knows that in the book of Luke there was an admonition by Christ that the BBC should date all materials with his birthday.
I searched BibleGateway for the BBC piece, and I can't seem to locate it. So I'll have to paraphrase from memory:
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him by referencing all future dates in the media with my date of birth.’ ”
As horrifying as this back-turning may be, a science bloke at the Guardian seems to think this may not be the whole story. Martin Robbins, generally a science blogger but a pretty good media commenter as well, offers an article that may help you to understand what's happened.
How the BBC's dark forces of political correctness threaten the Christian era
The BBC haven't banned AD/BC, but outraged Christians seem perplexed and annoyed by the idea of personal choice.
....The story that the BBC have banned AD/BC turns out to be as fictional as Kinky Keira's tale, as the Mail eventually admit in the final paragraph, when they let someone sensible from the BBC get a word in edgeways:
The BBC has not issued editorial guidance on the date systems... Both AD and BC, and CE and BCE are widely accepted date systems and the decision on which term to use lies with individual production and editorial teams.
So the BBC haven't dropped the terms, just allowed people to go with their own preferences. Terrifying stuff....
That's right. The BBC has decided that producers can choose to use BC/AD or the Common Era method of date designation. Scandalous, no doubt.
But I thought you ought to be aware of the backstory on this, as you are about to get wingnut chain letters that assure you the Marxist BBC is the spawn of Satan and is destroying civilization.
You have been warned.
